How to Plan a Wedding in the Forest

There’s something about a wedding in the forest that automatically makes you feel like a princess in the movies being kissed by her prince. Your hair flowing in the wind, your prince standing tall and stoic next to you, woodland creatures that talk standing at your feet….ok maybe not the talking rabbit but you know exactly what kind of a scene I’m talking about.

Wedding Couple in the Forest Setting

There’s just something about a wedding in the forest. For a wedding day paradise here are some things you should know about beforehand. The two biggest decisions you need to make when you choose to have a forest wedding are location and season! Both of these very much go hand in hand. If you are planning a wedding in an area near you then you are pretty familiar with what season is best for you.

A couple in Southern California knows never to have an outdoor wedding during the Santa Anna winds season or if you are in the south you will most definitely be sweating all of your makeup off within two minutes of being outside in the summer. When your location is somewhere that you have never been before or don’t know the best season to have your special day then I highly recommend doing some research beforehand. The last thing you want to do is to be having your wedding outdoors in a rainy season that you had no idea about.

Even when all of your planning works out perfectly, there’s nothing wrong with a good backup plan. The third thing that you will need before your big day is the proper permit. If you are on the private property of a friend then you are in the clear. If you are planning to have your wedding day in a state or national park make sure that you have the correct authorization to do so, that way a park ranger isn’t a wedding crasher. One of the best parts of forest weddings — you don’t have to spend a lot on decorations. Nature in and of itself is one of the most beautiful and breathtaking images there are. When you decide on a beautiful forest location, the good news is, you don’t have to break the budget on florals or decorations since the forest has already done it for you. But, if you do plan on having some decorations alongside that make sure that it is within the guidelines of the park and that you have permission to do so.

Lastly, don’t forget to let your guests know to wear comfortable shoes. As much as a nice pair of heels are a wonderful addition to any wedding outfit, the woods may not be the safest space to try walking in them. This might be the time to break out those flats and call it fabulous. There are a lot of benefits to a forest wedding. There’s no lack of space, aesthetic is set, you have a unique experience that few people can replicate, and you get to live out the fantasy that you had when you were younger. You really can not go wrong. So here you go, let’s start planning!
